Our Home

Located 3 miles east of Perth, County Road # 10, Franktown Road, is a 3 storie century home. Triple thick, yellow brick, insulates this heritage home situated on approximately 4 acres. We restored our home, by ourselves, maintaining 90% of the original features. We kept to 'period decorating' exposing ceiling medallions, combed woodwork and floors, all in pine. There are 4 bedrooms, 2 full baths, parlour, dining room, kitchen, pantry, converted summer kitchen to family room and wood shed converted to laundry room and office, full attic and separate loft. The cellar holds the original cistern and today burns combination wood and oil. Also on site is the original Hands homestead, which we moved log by log approximately 200 feet , to our property. The log cabin is one and a half stories, which originally had a wall ladder to the second floor. We put in a set of stairs for convenience and safety. At Christmas time it is so charming to see the cabin outlined in lights. In the spring the perennial beds come to life. Victorian flower beds are in show all summer long. There is an auction hall on site. In fact there were three adjoining auction halls on site years ago. Sadly, in 1985 a fire destroyed these buildings. Due to the devastation of such an event, the local community joined hands and held a benefit dance to raise funds. But it did not stop there. Family, friends, neighbours and acquaintances under the direction of Carpenter, Bud Thomas of Perth, held a barn raising event. Men worked outdoors all day building the new auction hall. Women inside the house prepared the meals and fed the workers. It meant so much to have such wonderful support . We will be forever grateful. In 1988 we operated a Bed and Breakfast from our home. It was called Lanentonie Rest. We had many people frequent our home. Some were one night stays, some weekenders, and a few moved in to room and board. People from all walks of life left us with memorable moments, playing with our children, cutting the lawn, weeding the garden, attending the auctions, story telling and so on. Even though we no longer operate as a bed & breakfast , we will always reminisce in the big country kitchen about some of the folks we met. We are very proud to say that Our Home is a Third Generation Home Based Business.
